Why Desmond Hume is the Most Special Person/Character on LOST
How about this LOST series. Really big and popular. It seems like a good show and most of it is tolerable. But let’s face it, in reality the series has way too many bad characters, not to mention a whole lot of sad moments and deaths. But that’s not what we’re here to talk about.
Anyway, one of the characters in LOST that really caught my eye was Desmond. A handsome Scottish man who wound up on the island after trying to live his life. Now what was really intriguing about Des was that he has potential in a way that nobody else has. How? Well, for starters, he loves this one woman, Penny Widmore. All that they’ve been through, despite her father, they eventually end up together, get married and named their son after a certain character, who I’m sure you’re all familiar with.
What else about Desmond is special? Easy, he has supernatural abilities. While being on the island, he started developing superpowers, having visions, trying to save Charlie from dying. All that time he spent trying to save Charlie, almost without even thinking about the consequences. In general, it’s important to want to change some future visions, but eventually he had to sacrifice Charlie, unwillingly, to get off the island. :(
Now comes the part where it gets really advanced. Some army squad hired by Widmore put Des in a room in Season 6, where he starts to time travel, as he did before, but by accident. Of course, Desmond has traveled through time before. After going through it, he seems to find himself doing what he was supposed to do, find Penny and then go back to the present day. In season 6, he actually saves Charlie from the water. Still, he was trying to reason with him in the flash-sideways, which I still have a hard time trying to understand.
To sum it all up, Desmond is the most special because he has a way of seeing things that nobody else can. He believes in love, changing the future and he knows what he has to do to complete the tasks at hand, like bringing everyone together in the end. (Spoilers) So, having to have what he was, what he can do, how he does it, that makes him a hero, that makes him his own hero. Abilities I guess you can imagine.
Well, that’s it. That’s all I have to say. Thanks so much for reading this, if you bothered, and… “I’ll see you in another life, brother.” ;)
